A Candle In The Wind

Fifteen years ago to the day, the Princess of Wales was killed when her car crashed in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris. Since then an astounding number of people have paid their respects to the late Princess. Elton John modified one of his songs in her honour. Her foundation, Centrepoint carried on, with her sons as patrons. They even had a Concert for Diana, in 2007, so that no one may forget to remember this marvellous person.

Perhaps the biggest tribute to Diana was when her son, Prince William, gave his mother's engagement ring to his (then) girlfriend Kate. William said that it was his way of keeping his mother in the middle of things, when she couldn't really be there.

Nothing I do could ever compare to that, and I do not wish for it to either. But I liked Diana, and I admired her and so I am going to remember, fifteen years since she was last alive, the People's Princess, at her very best.

And it's true about Diana: Her candle burned out long before her legend ever will.
